FAQ
Practical answers about recording readings, protecting your data, creating reports, and managing paid features.
Getting started
What is Drain Log?
Drain Log is a private, on-device tool for recording postoperative lymphatic-drain amounts and optional color and consistency observations. It totals readings and can prepare a report for your care team.
Why do I see a website before the recording app?
The public page at / explains Drain Log, its privacy model, pricing, and workflow. Select Start recording to open the application at /app/. An installed Home Screen icon launches the application directly.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Recording readings does not require an account, username, or password.
How do I set up my drains?
Open Settings, choose the number of lymphatic drains, and select Save settings. The entry form will then display one mL field for every configured drain.
How many drains can I configure?
You can configure between one and four drains.
Are the patient, surgery, doctor, and clinic fields required?
No. Those Settings fields are optional. If supplied, they appear in reports to make them easier for your care team to identify.
Can I install Drain Log like an app?
Yes, when your browser supports installation. On iPhone, open Drain Log in Safari, tap Share, and choose Add to Home Screen. Other supported browsers may show an Install button near the top of the app.
Can I use Drain Log offline?
After the app has loaded and cached its files, its core recording features are designed to work offline. Payment confirmation and purchase recovery require an internet connection.
Recording readings
How do I add a set of drain readings?
On Today, select Add lymphatic drain reading. For each displayed drain, enter an mL amount, review its date and time, optionally select color and consistency, and then select Save all drain readings.
Why are all of my drains shown together?
Showing every configured drain reduces the risk of saving a measurement under the wrong drain or accidentally omitting one.
Why can't I save until every drain has an amount?
Every configured drain requires an mL value so a complete set is recorded. Enter 0 when a drain had no output during that measurement.
Can I enter decimal amounts?
Yes. Amounts may include one decimal place, such as 12.5 mL, and must be between 0 and 1,000 mL.
Are color and consistency required?
No. These observations are optional and can be selected separately for each drain. Record only what you observe and do not use the app to decide whether an appearance is normal.
Can each drain have a different date, time, color, or consistency?
Yes. Each drain has its own date and time fields plus optional color and consistency selections.
Can I record a reading from an earlier time?
Yes. Change the prefilled date and time before saving.
Can I edit a saved reading?
The current version does not edit an existing reading. Because drains are saved as a set, delete each reading from the incorrect set in History, then add the complete corrected set again. This avoids duplicating the drain readings that were already correct.
How do I delete one reading?
Open History, find the reading, and select Delete next to it. Deletion cannot be undone unless the reading exists in an earlier exported backup.
What do Today's totals show?
Today displays the combined output and separate totals for drains that have readings dated today.
History and reports
Where can I see older readings?
Open History. Readings are grouped by day, with a daily combined total.
How do I create a report?
Open Report, choose the From and Through dates, and select Create report preview. The preview includes matching readings, patient details supplied in Settings, and totals. You can then download a PDF or a CSV spreadsheet with one row per reading for your care team.
Can I see a report before purchasing?
Yes. Select View a fictional sample report on the public pricing section or in Settings. The sample is marked SAMPLE — NOT A MEDICAL RECORD, uses invented entries, and does not access your readings or patient details.
Why does my report say there are no readings?
Confirm that the selected date range includes the dates of your saved readings. Readings outside the From and Through dates are excluded.
How do I print or share a report?
Create the report preview, then select Download PDF to print. Open the downloaded PDF in a browser or PDF viewer to print or share it using your device's normal controls.
Are reports uploaded to a server?
No. Report previews and PDFs are generated locally in your browser from readings stored on your device.
Do reports replace medical records or clinical advice?
No. Reports are patient-generated summaries. Review them for accuracy and use them only to support communication with your care team.
Data, backups, and privacy
Where are my readings stored?
Your drain readings, observations, patient details, and report contents are stored locally on your device using browser storage. They are not stored in Drain Log's server database.
Can Creative AI Solutions, LLC see my readings?
No. The company does not receive or have access to your locally stored tracking history.
Does Drain Log sell health information or use advertising trackers?
No. Drain Log does not sell or monetize your health tracking information and does not include third-party marketing trackers, advertising SDKs, or social-media pixels.
How do I back up my data?
In Settings, select Export Drain Log backup (JSON) and save the downloaded file somewhere safe. This file is for restoring Drain Log, not for importing directly into a clinic system. Export regularly, especially before clearing browser data, changing devices, or uninstalling the app.
Which file should I share with my care team?
Use the PDF when the care team wants an easy-to-review report. Use the CSV spreadsheet when they can accept structured data with one row per reading. The JSON file in Settings is a Drain Log backup and should normally be kept private unless it is being used to restore the app.
How do I restore a backup?
After paid access is confirmed, open Settings, select Import backup, choose a Drain Log JSON backup, and confirm the replacement. Import replaces the readings and settings currently stored on that device.
Can I merge a backup with my current readings?
No. Import replaces the current local readings and settings; it does not merge two histories. Export the current data first if you may need it later.
What happens if I clear browser data or uninstall the app?
Your locally stored readings may be permanently erased, along with the locally cached paid entitlement. Drain Log does not keep a server backup of readings, so export your data first.
Should I use Private, Incognito, or InPrivate mode?
No. Private browsing commonly deletes local app data when the private session ends. Use a normal browser window or an installed Home Screen app.
How do I delete all readings?
Open Settings, select Delete all readings, and confirm. This permanently removes all locally stored measurements. Settings and payment information may be stored separately.
Payments and paid features
What does the one-time purchase unlock?
Prepare and protect your complete drain record — $4.99 once unlocks care-team-ready PDF and CSV reports plus JSON backup and restore on the entitled device. There is no subscription.
Does Stripe receive my drain readings?
No. Stripe receives billing information and a random device license identifier used to confirm access. Drain readings, patient details, and report contents are not sent to Stripe.
I paid, but the features are still locked. What should I do?
Return to Drain Log, open Settings, and select Check payment status. If payment was just completed, wait briefly and try again. Payment confirmation requires an internet connection.
Why is the payment button unavailable?
The app may still be checking payment configuration, the payment service may be temporarily unavailable, or checkout may not be configured for that deployment. Check your connection and try again later.
How do I recover a purchase after clearing data or changing devices?
If recovery is available, select Recover purchase by email in Settings. Enter the same email used at Stripe checkout, then enter the six-digit code sent to that address. A code expires after 15 minutes.
Why don't I see the purchase-recovery button?
The button appears only when purchase recovery has been configured and the current device is not already entitled.
Does recovering a purchase restore my readings?
No. Purchase recovery restores paid-feature access only. Restore readings separately from a previously exported JSON backup.
Troubleshooting
Why did my readings disappear?
Common causes include private browsing, cleared site data, browser cleanup, uninstalling the app, changing browsers or devices, or device-storage failure. Restore from an exported backup if one is available.
Why are the wrong number of drain fields displayed?
Open Settings, select the correct number of drains, and select Save settings. Close and reopen the entry form if it was already open.
Why won't an amount save?
Every configured drain must have a numeric value from 0 through 1,000 mL. Complete any field marked Required and remove unsupported characters.
Why can't I import my backup?
Import requires confirmed paid access and a valid Drain Log JSON backup no larger than 10 MB. The file must not have been manually damaged or converted to another format.
Why isn't the Install button visible?
Some browsers do not expose an install prompt, or the app may already be installed. On iPhone, installation is performed from Safari's Share menu using Add to Home Screen.
Will changing the number of drains erase older readings?
No. Changing the configured count changes future entry fields. Existing history remains associated with the drain names under which it was saved.
Health and safety
Does Drain Log tell me whether my output is normal?
No. The app records and totals values but does not interpret them, diagnose a condition, or determine whether a drain can be removed.
When should I contact my care team?
Follow the specific instructions given by your surgical team. Contact them about concerns such as fever, increasing redness or swelling, worsening pain, pus-like or foul-smelling fluid, sudden unexpected changes, loss of suction, or a displaced tube.
Can Drain Log tell me when a drain should be removed?
No. Only your care team can make that decision based on your procedure, measurements, examination, and clinical circumstances.
Is surgical drainage the same as lymphedema?
No. A surgical drain removes fluid from a surgical area. Lymphedema is swelling related to impaired lymph flow. Tell your care team about new or worsening swelling, heaviness, tightness, skin changes, reduced movement, or discomfort.
Can food or supplements control drain output?
No particular food is proven to flush the lymphatic system or directly control surgical-drain output. Follow your clinician's nutrition and fluid instructions, and discuss supplements or restrictive diets with your care team.
What should I do in an emergency?
Do not rely on Drain Log for emergency help. Contact local emergency services or follow the urgent-care instructions provided by your medical team.
